Our work concentrates on the relationship between advanced lubrication, engine cleanliness, friction reduction, fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions. The objective is to help vehicles operate more efficiently while reducing avoidable fuel consumption, maintenance requirements and environmental impact.

Quantum has continued research and development to define the testing methods, assumptions, hypotheses and links between relevant performance parameters, while identifying the limitations, accuracy and practical significance of the results.

Quantum reports significant improvements across passenger vehicles and commercial trucks following intensive engine cleaning and the installation of new Quantum lubricants. These observations form part of the company’s continuing evaluation and development program.

From repeated failure
to successful approval.

Quantum derived part of its reported emissions performance from approximately eight to ten clients whose trucks had failed emissions testing required for approval by the Malaysian Road Transport Authority.

Each vehicle had reportedly failed the testing approximately five to six times. Quantum Petroleum then applied an intensive engine-flushing procedure formulated with virgin base oils and installed new lubricants.

Following this process, the trucks passed the required testing. Quantum also recorded fuel-cost improvements, including approximately RM25.00—around AU$10.00 at the time—less diesel fuel when carrying a 40-foot container over a distance of approximately 300 kilometres.

Quantum’s research and development program continues towards further evaluation and direct measurement of CO₂ performance. The work is intended to define testing methods, assumptions, hypotheses, relationships between parameters, known shortcomings and the accuracy of the resulting analysis.

Understanding model limitations is important because those limitations can affect cost-benefit assessments of the CO₂ and greenhouse-gas reductions expected from improved vehicle efficiency.

  • Extensive research and development is being undertaken to apply effective, lower-emission lubricant technology across vehicle categories.
  • Fuel-efficiency and greenhouse-gas assessments should reflect the real use of vehicles rather than relying only on official-cycle estimates.
  • Improved fuel efficiency should include emphasis on very-low-fuel-consumption vehicles, supported by effective policy and informed consumer choices.

Transport accounts for approximately 27% of total CO₂ emissions in OECD countries. Road transport generally represents approximately 55–99% of greenhouse-gas emissions attributable to transport, with approximately two-thirds associated with private cars, primarily in the form of CO₂.

Measures directed towards improved fuel efficiency include voluntary agreements between vehicle manufacturers and governments to produce lower-consumption vehicles, graduated vehicle taxation, fuel taxes and excise duties, consumer information, and broader promotion of fuel efficiency across the sectors involved.
