NRBO.
VIRGIN QUALITY.

Quantum Petroleum’s commitment to premium lubricant integrity begins with carefully selected virgin base oils - never recycled base oil in Quantum formulations.

BASE OIL

Purity at the
foundation.

Engine oil is engineered to reduce friction and wear by maintaining a protective film between moving surfaces. A finished lubricant typically combines a base oil with a carefully balanced additive system that may include detergents, dispersants, anti-wear agents, antioxidants, friction modifiers, antifoaming agents and pour-point depressants.

Because the base oil forms the foundation of the finished lubricant, its cleanliness, consistency and stability are critical. Quantum’s NRBO position is clear: our lubricant formulations are built with carefully selected virgin base oils to support dependable performance, controlled formulation quality and long-term equipment protection.

Used oil is chemically
and physically altered.

During operation, engine oil is exposed to heat, combustion by-products, moisture and wear debris. Its additives are progressively consumed or oxidised, while the fluid can accumulate organic degradation products and metallic residues.

Oxidation Products

Heat and service conditions can create carbonyl-containing degradation products and other organic compounds not present at the same levels in fresh virgin base oil.

Water & Sediment

Re-refined or recycled oil may retain higher levels of moisture and sediment when purification is incomplete or process control is inadequate.

Trace Metals

Used oil can contain iron, lead, chromium, cadmium, silicon and other residues originating from wear, contamination and previous service.

AA · ICP · FTIR

Analytical evidence
reveals the difference.

Researchers have used atomic absorption spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to distinguish virgin oil from recycled engine oil. These analytical techniques can identify oxidation products, additive signatures and concentrations of wear metals.

FTIR analysis has identified spectral features associated with carbonyl-containing oil degradation products, while AA and ICP methods can measure trace-metal concentrations. Together, these methods provide a practical technical basis for evaluating oil condition and differentiating fresh virgin material from previously used and reprocessed oil.

A disciplined standard
without compromise.

QUANTUM LUBRICANTS ARE FORMULATED WITHOUT RECYCLED BASE OIL.

This commitment supports formulation consistency, cleaner product architecture and confidence in the performance of every Quantum lubricant. It complements our batch-testing program, technical quality controls and 100% product guarantee system.

  • Carefully selected virgin base oils
  • Controlled additive technology
  • Batch-by-batch quality verification
  • Product integrity and traceability
  • Performance-focused formulation standards
  • Long-term customer confidence

Recycling used lubricants remains important for responsible waste management. Quantum’s NRBO policy concerns the formulation of Quantum-branded finished lubricants and our decision to use virgin base oils as their foundation.
